Weekly Blog - Sound Amplification (10|28|16)

Summary: During this week, we were given the Sound Amplification project. We are currently doing our background research - the technology behind sound amplification. Before we moved onto this part of our background research, we first had to complete a 10-page Google Document on the science of sound amplification as well as answering the questions while doing a "Gizmo". We also had to create our own Trello Board (link below).

 EDP: I am on the Define The Problem part of the EDP. What I mean by that is that I am on the "background research" part of the Define The Problem step of the EDP.

Summary:  During this week, I worked on a few worksheets for our Asteroid Impact which was in the imaginary state of Alabraska. When we did this, I calculated the general area for Alabraska, in which the length was 150 km and the width was 230 km, giving me a sum of 34,500 km 2 . After that, I compared the size of Alabraska to the size of the multiple caverns my group and I decided to establish underneath the surface of Alabraska. After that, I scaled my general map of Alabraska, including the military base, and then decided that our cavern was not large enough to house 10 million people. Weekly Blog Post - Paper Mache

Summary:  During this week, I put paper mache all over our box to represent our cavern (to make the glue, just put one part flour and one part water). I covered our box in saran wrap and Ziploc bags (we didn't have saran wrap at first) before dipping the torn up newspaper and then putting it on top of our box.  EDP: GENERATE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS I generated possible solutions when our group didn't have saran wrap and so I improvised by tearing apart some Ziploc bags (like a psycho, I might add) and then plastering them onto the box with some tape.  Image Link: Ziploc Bags

Engineering Project Blog - Engineering Design Process (Own Arrangement)

Summary:  During this week, we were told to make our arrangement of the Engineering Design Process that would be used for the rest of the school year and for future projects in our Engineering class. I learned that the Engineering Design Process didn't have to be in a specific order.  Backward-Looking: What process did you go through to produce this piece?   The process that I had to go through in order to produce this piece was first to identify the steps of the EDP in a video. After that was completed, I had to determine the S&EP practices along with pieces of text (S&EP - Science & Engineering Practices). Once that was out of my way, I got started on my Engineering Design Process arrangement.
